2009 Annual Trauma Symposium
NTI held its 15th Annual Trauma Symposium August 31 and September 1, 2009 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.With a focus on Mass Casualty Response from both military and civilian perspectives, the event drew more than 800 trauma care providers from a wide variety of medical settings. Physicians, surgeons and nurses presented more than 100 research-based sessions covering contemporary issues in a variety of disciplines including anesthesiology, burn surgery, emergency medicine, ophthalmology, mental health, trauma nursing and more. Symposium Debate Settles Tourniquet Controversy

In a Symposium lecture about the dangers and benefits of tourniquets, Dr. Mauricio Lynn, Director of Mass Casualty Preparedness and Response at the University of Miami, argued that tourniquets have improved and that their use is safe and effective.
