American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma The ACS Committee on Trauma develops and implements programs for trauma care in local, regional, national and international arenas. Programs encompass education, professional development, standards of care and assessment of outcomes.
The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma Furthers the study and practice of traumatic surgery in its various departments in the United States and Canada; furnishes leadership and fosters advances in the surgery of trauma.
American Trauma Society The ATS is dedicated to the prevention of trauma and improvement of trauma care.
Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma Furnishes leadership and fosters advances in the care of injured patients.
The United States Army Institute of Surgical ResearchDedicated to both laboratory and clinical trauma research; provides requirements-driven combat casualty care medical solutions and products for injured soldiers; provides state-of-the-art trauma, burn, and critical care to Department of Defense beneficiaries around the world and civilians in our trauma region; and provides Burn Special Medical Augmentation Response Teams.
American Association of Neurological Surgeons Dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurological surgery in order to promote the highest quality of patient care.
Society of Trauma Nurses The Society of Trauma Nurses provides educational programs, mentoring, interest groups, prevention resources, outreach and services to its membership to assist trauma nurses in performance improvement and professional development.
Orthopedic Web LinksThe largest index of online information for orthopaedic surgeons, residents, nurses, patients, vendors and allied health professionals interested in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology. OWL is a free, web-based resource.

Survivors Must Include More than The Lucky



Sharon Smith, the executive director of NTI, has avoided the site of her traumatic injury for nearly 40 years.

Although she drives past the La Grange County Fairgrounds every so often, she cannot bring herself to pull in and peer over the 60-foot high, boulder-strewn cliff she tumbled down as a teenager in 1970.
